The W.RECODE+_TEST update is looking... bad. They're doing a UI redesign, with no Player Settings in sight, this update is giving my muscle memory a fright.

Reasons the new update isn't going to be good.

Muscle Memory

Many people have muscle memory for the current GUI. From the looks of it, some of the buttons I use frequently are missing, and the whole Edit menu (the only leak we have so far) is shorter, which will be a pain to adjust to for all players.

It's change.

Humans don't like change, it takes effort to adjust to change. The developers have it the easiest, and the testers 2nd easiest as they can fine tune and gradually adjust while the players just continue building with 0 change to their beloved GUI. This is why I pointed out the block order and gate colours being changed in my last blog post even though they might seem so insignificant.

Why?

Why does Wubby even need a GUI redesign? Everyone was fine with the current one, so why change it completely and just make the community mad? I'm not saying change is bad, some change like bug fixes and extra features are good (most of the time (looking at you Variable Type and Increment)) but unnecessary change is bad as it makes people adjust to something they shouldn't of had to adjust to.

Final Thoughts

This is just a bad update. There's nothing good I could say about it. I guess you could argue that it makes it more "modern", but come on, Wubby hasn't even been officially released for 1 year yet.

Go back?
